  Amy GerstlerAmy Gerstler was born in San Diego, California, in 1956. A writer of poetry, nonfiction, and journalism, she won the National Book Critics Circle Award in poetry for Bitter Angel in 1991. Penguin published her most recent book of poems, Dearest Creature, in 2009. Her previous twelve books include Ghost Girl, Medicine, Crown of Weeds, which won a California Book Award, and Native Storm. She has contributed reviews and articles to Artforum, The Village Voice, Los Angeles magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Bookforum, and Art and Antiques. She is a member of the core faculty of the Bennington Writing Seminars MFA program at Bennington college in Vermont. She also teaches in the graduate fine arts department at Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, California and in the master of professional writing program at the University of Southern California. She lives in Los Angeles.
